Information I collect

Information you give me. If you contact me through the Site, book a call, or send an email, I collect the information you choose to provide: name, email address, company or organization, role, and anything you include in your message.

Information collected automatically. The Site uses Vercel Web Analytics, a privacy-focused analytics service that measures aggregate traffic without cookies or persistent identifiers. It records page views, referring pages, approximate country-level location, browser type, and device type. It does not track individuals across sessions or across other websites, and it does not build visitor profiles. My hosting provider may also log standard technical information, including IP addresses, for security and operational purposes.

I do not knowingly collect information from anyone under the age of 18.

Why I collect it

I use personal information to respond to inquiries, schedule and conduct conversations about potential engagements, deliver services to clients, send communications you have asked to receive, and understand how the Site is used so I can improve it. I do not use your information for automated decision-making or profiling.

Consent

By submitting information through the Site, you consent to my use of it for the purposes described above. You can withdraw consent at any time by emailing hello@elanacaplan.com. Withdrawal may mean I can no longer respond to your inquiry or provide services.

Sharing and disclosure

I do not sell, rent, or trade personal information.

I share information only with service providers who help me operate the practice, including website hosting, analytics, email, and scheduling providers. These providers may store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be subject to the laws of that jurisdiction, including lawful access by foreign courts and government authorities. I work only with providers who commit to comparable levels of protection.

I may also disclose information where required by law, court order, or regulatory authority, or to establish or defend a legal claim.

Cookies and tracking

The Site does not use advertising or tracking cookies, and my analytics provider operates without cookies. My hosting platform may set essential cookies necessary for security and basic site functionality. You can manage or disable cookies through your browser settings, though some parts of the Site may not work correctly if you do.

I do not respond to Do Not Track browser signals, as no common standard exists for them. The Site does not track you across other websites regardless.

Retention

I keep personal information only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected, or as required by law, professional obligations, or record-keeping requirements. Inquiry correspondence that does not lead to an engagement is generally deleted within 24 months. Client records are retained per the terms of the applicable engagement agreement.

Security

I use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect personal information, including access controls and reputable service providers. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and I cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your rights

You may request access to the personal information I hold about you, ask me to correct inaccuracies, ask me to delete it, or withdraw consent to its use. Email hello@elanacaplan.com and I will respond within 30 days.

If you are not satisfied with my response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca.

Visitors in the European Economic Area and United Kingdom

If you are located in the EEA or the UK, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation, including the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to receive your data in a portable format.

My legal basis for processing is your consent, where you have provided it, and my legitimate interest in responding to business inquiries and operating the Site. Where I rely on consent, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out beforehand.

Transfers of personal data outside the EEA or UK are made to service providers who offer appropriate safeguards, including standard contractual clauses where applicable.

You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority, or with the Information Commissioner's Office in the United Kingdom.

Email communications

I send email only to people who have contacted me, are clients, or have asked to hear from me. Every commercial message includes an unsubscribe option and my contact information, consistent with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).

Third-party links

The Site may link to other websites. I am not responsible for their privacy practices and encourage you to review their policies.

Changes

I may update this policy. The effective date above reflects the most recent version. Material changes will be posted on this page.
